MRS. SMITH & CARLYLE: TO MARS AND BACK AGAIN!

CREATIVE DIRECTION // PRODUCTION // WORKSHOP

ORIGINAL STORYTELLING

CARDINAL THEATRICALS teamed once again with noted philanthropist, performance artist, and guitar hero MRS. SMITH to develop and create her own space-rock musical.

In partnership with Berkeley Rep, and the Ground Floor, we set out to create an entirely original story complete with new characters, songs, and of course…an epic space battle, all performed LIVE on stage.

COLLABORATION

Blending elements of The Muppets, Star Wars, Scott Pilgrim... , Back to the Future, MRS. SMITH & CARLYLE: TO MARS AND BACK AGAIN is an ambitious undertaking, incorporates puppetry, state-of-the-art digital projections and visuals, as well as a get-stuck-in-your-head-for-weeks eclectic rock score.

DESIGN

Mrs. Smith and The King of The Dogstar engage in a highly charged (and outlandishly visual) “battle sequence” involving pre-recorded rhythm music, electric guitar, and synthesizers.

SPECTACULAR

WORKSHOPS

A series of different workshops and recordings were held between Berkeley Rep and Minneapolis, featuring incredibly versatile casts and collaborators.
